
I confess that I have sometimes complained about driving across Nebraska — really my own fault for making a schedule that requires me to rush across the state.
Nebraskans could legitimately highlight the many cultural and historic sites in the state, or point out that I enjoy the food they grow.
But I suspect they might ask me to open my eyes and really look out my car window – as I did on this trip – and simply notice the natural beauty of the vast landscape, and appreciate it for what it is.
They would be right

That happened to me when I traveled across South Dakota. I was determined to like, but when I saw the beautiful and–to me–alien landscape, I realized I didn’t have to work very hard to like it. Beauty is everywhere!
