Blessing of Our Home

Inscribing the Door, originally uploaded by Edith OSB.

Each year, on Epiphany Sunday, the sisters gather in our front hallway for a ritual blessing of our home. We sing traditional songs, are blessed with incense; then Sister Martha inscribes the initials of the three Magi, the digits of the year, and crosses, in chalk above the entrance into the monastery from the Cloister walk.

One Response to Blessing of Our Home

  1. Madonna says:

Oh, how I wish the students were on campus for Epiphany and able to partake. Yet another sacred ritual for them to witness that embraces our daily bread. Amen!
