Pope Francis – First Pope from the Americas (Symposium)

In November, I attended Pope Francis – First Pope From the Americas, a symposium presented by the Lumen Christi Institute at the University of Chicago.  The three speakers each offered a relevant and unique perspective.  The Symposium is now available online (see below)

  • Dr Anna Bonta Moreland, as an Argentinian theologian educated by Jesuits described Pope Francis’ history and actions within his national context;
  • Fr Brian Daley, S.J. , winner of the 2012 Ratzinger Prize in theology, traced the hallmarks of the Jesuit charism in Pope Francis’ first months; and
  • Dr. Russell Ronald Reno, theologian and editor of First Things, considered the ways Pope Francis has been received by various groups within the Church and his popularity outside it.
